New Delhi: Delhi and its adjoining areas woke up to a warm morning yet again on Tuesday with the minimum temperature settling at degrees Celsius 12 degrees Celsius.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a partly cloudy sky and mist during the morning hours. The day is expected to be warm. The maximum and minimum temperatures over Delhi are likely to hover around 24 degrees Celsius to 26 degrees Celsius and 9 degrees Celsius to 11 degrees Celsius, respectively.
“The minimum temperature will be near normal and the maximum temperatures will be near normal over Delhi. The predominant surface wind is likely to be from the south direction with wind speed associated with calm wind reaching up to 5 kmph during the morning hours,” the IMD said.
On Monday, Delhi experienced its warmest day in February so far as the maximum temperature settled at 26.7 degrees Celsius on Monday, 3.4 notches above normal.
Dip in temperature is expected in coming days
Mahesh Palawat of Skymet Weather attributed the recent rise in temperature to a change in wind pattern. “At present, winds are blowing from the southeastern side, which are relatively warmer, and wind speeds have also reduced, leading to higher temperatures,” he said.
He, however, said that temperatures are likely to dip marginally over the next two to three days, with maximum temperatures likely to remain between 25 and 26 degrees Celsius. Palawat said the dip in temperatures is expected in the next couple of days due to northwesterly winds.
“After two to three days, temperatures may dip to around 24 degrees Celsius or slightly lower as northwesterly winds from the western Himalayas, which are colder, will start influencing the region,” he said, PTI reported.
For February, the IMD expects both minimum and maximum temperatures to stay above normal. This means fewer cold nights and warmer afternoons, as winter conditions are likely to retreat earlier than usual.
