Delhi: Mother, 6-year-old daughter found dead in bed box, neighbour named suspect

New Delhi: A gruesome double murder has come to light in southeast Delhi after a homemaker and her young daughter were found dead inside their house in Bhim Colony, Ali Vihar, under the Sarita Vihar police station limits.

According to police officials, the bodies of Jyoti, 35, wife of Sudarshan, and her six-year-old daughter were discovered concealed inside the storage compartment of a bed on February 20 at around 10.30 pm. The incident came to light after a Police Control Room call alerted authorities, following which a team led by the Station House Officer reached the spot.

The victims were rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

Police rush to scene, forensic teams deployed

Senior officers, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police, visited the residence soon after the recovery of the bodies. Crime team members and experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory examined the scene and collected evidence.

Initial inspection did not show visible external injuries on the bodies. However, the postmortem conducted on February 21 revealed that both victims died due to strangulation by throat compression and smothering. Police said the final autopsy report is awaited.

Neighbour under scanner

During preliminary questioning and local inquiry, suspicion fell on Din Dayal, a 35-year-old accountant who resides in the same building. Based on initial findings and inputs from residents, he has been named as the prime suspect.

A case has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder. Police teams have launched raids at multiple locations to trace and arrest the accused.

Manhunt underway

Officials said efforts are underway to determine the motive behind the crime. The incident has left the local community in fear and the family devastated.

Police have assured that the accused will be apprehended soon and that all aspects of the case are being thoroughly investigated.
