Will BJP’s target of ’12-0 clean sweep’ be achieved?

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has entered this election in a very aggressive manner. BJP has 115 councilors in the current MCD House and the party is aiming to reach the majority mark of 125 by registering a 12-0 win. By showing this demonstration, BJP wants to prove that CM Rekha Gupta’s:

  • e-bus policy
  • Health and Insurance Plans
  • Chhath puja arrangements
  • Has left a positive impact on the people of the city.

Will AAP be able to regain the lost ground?

  • AAP, which once had a strong hold in Delhi politics, is trying to stand back in this by-election.
  • After losing power in the last assembly elections, AAP is now left with only 99 councilors in MCD.
  • Former Chief Minister Atishi took the lead, and the party went door-to-door and tried to get people back on board.

Congress’s challenge: Will it be able to save some wards?

  • Now BJP and AAP dominate the politics of Delhi.
  • Congress wants to prove its presence again by winning at least some wards.
  • For Congress, this election is no less than a battle of political survival.

Why were the by-elections held? On which seats voting is taking place?

Several councilors in the last 12 months:

  • became an MP
  • elected as MLAs
  • or the post became vacant due to other reasons
  • For this reason these by-elections became necessary.

Vacant Ward: Mundka, Shalimar Bagh-B, Ashok Vihar, Chandni Chowk, Chandni Mahal, Dwarka-B, Dichaon Kalan, Naraina, Sangam Vihar-A, South Puri (SC), Greater Kailash, Vinod Nagar. These wards fall in many important areas – Matiala, Najafgarh, Rajendra Nagar, Deoli, Patparganj, and the electoral impact on local issues is clearly visible.

Will this by-election change the direction of Delhi politics?

Even though this by-election is for only 12 seats in Delhi, its impact is huge. The results will decide whether:

  • BJP will become stronger
  • AAP will make a comeback
  • Or will Congress rise again?

To a great extent, the picture of Delhi politics in the coming months will be clear from these results.
