New Delhi: A 55-year-old man died after the taxi he was travelling in was involved in a multi-vehicle collision amid dense fog on Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) in Dwarka early Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Chhaju Singh, a resident of Channuwala village in Punjab. He was heading to the Indira Gandhi International Airport to drop his son, Amandeep Singh, when the accident occurred.
Multi-vehicle collission
According to police, a PCR call reporting a road accident near Jharoda Kalan was received at the Baba Haridas Nagar police station in the early hours of Saturday. A police team rushed to the spot and found that several vehicles had collided on the stretch from Jharoda towards IGI Airport, apparently due to poor visibility caused by heavy fog.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that a taxi bearing a Punjab registration number, carrying five occupants including the driver, was the last vehicle in the chain collision. Singh, who was seated in the taxi, suffered grievous injuries in the crash.
Injured provided medical assistance
He was immediately taken to Tarak Mehta Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Other occupants of the taxi suffered injuries and were provided medical assistance. Their condition was stated to be stable.
