Why was this big rehabilitation plan necessary?
Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), the company that operates Delhi Airport, said that this runway was started in 2008. Although routine maintenance and minor repairs were carried out in 2017, the ever-increasing flights, high usage and aging infrastructure have now necessitated a complete overhaul.
This mega plan includes:
- Runway resurfacing
- New Rapid Exit Taxiway
- New Instrument Landing System (ILS)
These upgrades are being made to increase safety and efficiency in the future.
