Delhi flood Alert: Yamuna River rises after heavy rains, evacuations underway

New Delhi: After consecutive rains for the past 2-3 days, the Yamuna River level on Wednesday was recorded at 206.83 feet at the Old Railway Bridge (ORB) at 8 am. The authorities have issued a flood warning in areas near the river as the water level is expected to rise further.

The flood advisory issued on Tuesday evening stated, “As per current indications, the water level by 7 am on September 3, 2025, is likely to be 206.90 metres, and thereafter, the water level is likely to rise.”

People evacuated from low-lying areas

The Yamuna River crossed the evacuation mark, which is 206 metres at the ORB, on Tuesday. The district authorities evacuated the people living in the low-lying areas. Along with this, the traffic was closed on the ORB as the water continued to rise.

An official from the Central Flood Control Room said that the reason for the rising water level is mostly due to the high volumes of water released from the Wazirabad and Hathnikund barrages every hour. He added that the water may further increase as per the forecast.
