Delhi created history by scoring the highest total of any side in women’s domestic T20 cricket: 262 for 6 versus Hyderabad in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy on Thursday at the MCA Ground 2 in Gahunje, Pune.
They beat Goa’s old record of 257 for 2 against Arunachal Pradesh from the 2019-20 campaign. Delhi’s total was the 11th-highest in women’s T20 cricket overall; the ten higher scores were all from women’s T20 internationals.
Tanisha Singh’s 119 Steals Show
The Delhi opener, Tanisha Singh, led the charge with a scorching 119 off only 47 balls after winning the toss and choosing to bat first. With a century off 38 deliveries, she tied West Indies’ Deandra Dottin for the third-fastest century in women’s Twenty20 cricket, only surpassed by Kiran Navgire and Sophie Devine.
Despite losing opening partner Vanshika Lila early, the 23-year-old hit 25 fours and a six. Delhi then surpassed 175 thanks to her and international Priya Punia’s 160-run partnership off just 66 balls. After Punia scored 59 off 28 deliveries, Delhi surpassed 200 runs thanks to another burst of pace from Shweta Sehrawat, who scored 26 off just eight balls, including three sixes.
G Trisha ultimately bowled Tanisha, but Delhi continued to score freely thanks to cameos from Deeksha Sharma and Nazma Khan, while captain Soni Yadav added 15 to help the team reach the record total.
Hyderabad’s best bowler was Vanka Pooja, who finished her four overs with figures of 4 for 32. Each of the other seven bowlers gave up at least 11 runs every over.
Hyderabad’s chase got off to a good start, with opener Trisha spearheading the reaction. Despite Trisha’s 80 off 52 balls, the visitors were unable to sustain Delhi’s scoring pace. Hyderabad concluded at 154 for 8, with Captain Pranavi Chandra being the only other batter to cross the 20-run mark. Delhi won by a dominant 108 runs thanks to Sumiti Soni’s 3/28 and only one bowler going for 11 runs or more. The competition will take place from October 26 to November 20.
