Due to increasing air pollution in Delhi, the government has closed physical classes from nursery to class 5 till further orders. Now all students will have to compulsorily study online. The AQI on Monday was 427, which is in the ‘severe’ category.
New Delhi. Due to increasing air pollution, Delhi government took a big decision on Monday 15 December. Under this, students from nursery to class five will have to compulsorily study in virtual mode. Till now, the Delhi government had given the choice to parents whether they wanted to send their children to school or make them attend online classes. But now they have no such option.
Physical mode classes closed in Delhi till further orders
In a circular issued on Monday, the Directorate of Education said, “In view of the current high AQI level in Delhi, it has been decided that classes in physical mode for students from nursery to class 5 in all government, government-aided and unaided private recognized schools of Delhi will remain closed till further orders. All school heads have been directed to ensure classes in online mode for the students of these classes. However, the remaining classes will continue as per the instructions issued earlier.” Will continue accordingly.
AQI reaches critical level in Delhi
On Monday, Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) remained in the ‘severe’ category with a reading of 427, while on Sunday it stood at 461, the second highest AQI so far in December. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air quality at 27 monitoring stations across the city on Monday was ‘severe’, with 12 stations in the ‘very poor’ range. The worst wind of 475 was recorded in Wazirpur. Let us tell you that AQI between 0 to 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 to 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 ‘medium’, 201 to 300 ‘bad’, 301 to 400 ‘very bad’ and 401 to 500 ‘severe’.
Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage 4 implemented
The air quality index of Delhi and its surrounding areas has once again fallen into the ‘severe’ category, due to which people are complaining of difficulty in breathing, sore throat, burning sensation in the eyes. In view of the worsening situation, the Delhi government has implemented Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage 4, under which all private and government schools have been ordered to run in hybrid mode. Apart from this, all government and private offices have been instructed to work at 50 percent capacity and to allow the remaining 50 percent employees to work from home.
