New Delhi: Determined to script a fresh chapter after another titleless IPL campaign, Delhi Capitals have embarked on a sweeping overhaul of their coaching setup, with Sri Lankan pace legend Chaminda Vaas set to join the franchise as fast-bowling coach ahead of the 2027 season.
The move comes weeks after the franchise formally parted ways with its previous coaching group. Vaas, renowned for his international exploits and vast coaching experience with Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Ireland and several franchise teams, is expected to spearhead the development of Delhi’s pace attack.
Former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra is also likely to be inducted as spin-bowling coach, marking his first coaching assignment since retiring from professional cricket last year.
The revamp is being led by Sourav Ganguly, who has taken charge as head coach, while former India World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh has been appointed batting coach. The trio were actively involved in Delhi Capitals’ off-season camps and player trials in Bengaluru and New Delhi.
The restructuring follows the high-profile return of Rishabh Pant from Lucknow Super Giants in a trade involving Kuldeep Yadav. Led by Axar Patel, Delhi Capitals finished sixth in IPL 2026 and remain in pursuit of their elusive maiden IPL crown.
