Delhi: Businessman’s son robs father of Rs 10 lakh at gunpoint, caught

New Delhi: The Delhi Police received a call on their emergency number 112, regarding a robbery. The caller reported a daylight robbery near Laxmi Nagar. The police launched a manhunt immediately after receiving the call.

Cops scan CCTV, catch thieves

According to a report in the Times of India, on Tuesday morning, at around 9 am, 2 masked men threatened the Mukherjee Nagar businessman with a gun. The duo were wearing masks and helmets, so the businessman failed to see their faces.

The businessman was on way to deliver the cash to his brother-in-law, on behalf of his business partner. After the money was stolen, the man approached the police for help.

The businessman told them that while he was on way to his brother-in-law’s home, his vehicle was intercepted by 2-scooty-borne men. They robbed him of the money at gunpoint. Hearing the story, initially the investigators were skeptical. They thought that the complainant had concocted the story of robbery and had himself stolen the cash.

However, despite their doubts, they began an investigation. The police began scanning CCTV footage of the area. In total they looked at footage from 120 CCTV cameras on the entire stretch where the man was robbed. They began scanning the footage from Laxmi Nagar.

However despite their efforts, the 2 robbers were a step ahead each time. Each time the police though that they had caught the scooty-bound robbers, they disappeared into traffic or took a turn in some blind corner on the road. The trail continued for a long. The robbers had covered their faces with masks and helmets.

However the moment the cops had been looking for finally happened. One of the robbers took off his helmet and pulled down his mask, and the CCTV installed at Anand Vihar caught his face. The duo had thought that they had escaped the glaze of the CCTV cameras, and stopped at a quiet area in Anand Vihar. But as luck ran out for them, the 121st CCTV scanned by the investigators gave their identity away.

The police caught both the accused, using ground intelligence and their network of informers.

Identity parade shocker

Soon after catching the robbers the police called the businessman for identification. During the identification parade, the case took a dramatic turn. The man realised that the criminal was his own son.

During interrogation the 20-year-old son of the man confessed that he along with a friend had planned the robbery. He claimed that he decided to take the step because his father constantly refused to give him money and denied him an “allowance”. He also said that he wanted to “teach his father a lesson.”

However, yet another twist was awaiting in the case. The police recovered the Rs 10 lakh stolen from the man, from the boy’s grandmother’s house. Both the youth now face charges of armed robbery.
