Delhi blast probe: Dr Umar’s chilling radicalisation video surfaces; Hamas-style drone plot revealed

New Delhi: A hitherto unseen video of Dr Umar Mohammad, also known as Umar-un-Nabi, has surfaced during the November 10 Delhi Red Fort blast probe. The undated video reveals disturbing radicalisation and the sinister plot behind the attack. The undated video of the suicide attacker explains what he calls the “misunderstood concept” of suicide bombing. News9 does not vouch for the authenticity of the video at this stage.

Umar’s video raises concerns about radicalisation

In the clip, Umar is seen defending so-called “martyrdom operations”, arguing that a person “presumes he is going to die for sure at a particular place and time”. In the video, Umar is seen making a dastardly remark: “Don’t fear death,” while suggesting that destiny alone determines when a life ends. The video, now under forensic study, is being viewed as a key indicator of Umar’s radicalisation. News9 does not endorse the contents of the video.

Umar, allegedly linked to the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed, drove the Hyundai i20 packed with explosives into the crowded Chandni Chowk area, killing at least 15 people on November 10. Investigators are analysing residue from the scene to confirm whether TATP, considered a highly unstable explosive, was used.

White-collar module with bigger plans

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) says fresh leads point to a wider terror module operating well beyond the single blast. According to officials, the group was working on weaponising drones and even experimenting with rocket designs. This approach mirrors the methods used by Hamas during its October 7, 2023, attack on Israel.

This line of inquiry emerged after the arrest of Jaseer Bilal Wani, also known as Danish, from Srinagar. Investigators believe he provided the technical know-how to modify commercial drones with large batteries capable of carrying heavy explosive loads. The plan, they say, may have been to fly an armed drone over a busy market to inflict mass casualties.

Danish reportedly worked closely with Umar and the first arrested conspirator, Amir Rashid Ali. Three colleagues of Dr Umar — all doctors at Al-Falah University — have also been arrested. Nearly 3,000 kg of explosive material has since been recovered from properties linked to the suspects.
