Delhi Airport Updates: The technical glitch at Delhi Airport has now been rectified. More than 800 flights were affected due to the AMSS system fault. AAI has restored the system, but delays may continue until the backlog is cleared.
IGI Airport Technical Problem Update: The technical glitch in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on Friday has now been rectified. Airport Authority of India (AAI) has said that the problem of AMSS (Automatic Message Switching System) has been fixed. AAI said the system is now fully functional and the manual process ensured the safety of all flights. However, minor delays to some flights may continue until the backlog is cleared.
What went wrong at Delhi airport?
According to media reports, the problem at the airport was in the AMSS system, which helps air traffic controllers make flight plans through ATS (Auto Track System). The system shutdown forced air traffic controllers to manually prepare flight plans, slowing operations and increasing airspace congestion. Aviation expert Captain Sharat Panikar said that the manual process takes a long time, so the delay is natural. He said ATIS (Automatic Terminal Information System), which stores weather and flight data, was also affected. He said, ‘There is not much impact when the flight is in the air, but takeoff takes more time.’
Passenger problems
Due to this technical glitch, more than 800 flights were affected and a large number of passengers remained stranded at the terminals. Due to this, long lines were seen. Due to frequent re-scheduling, we had to wait for hours for the flight. Some passengers also lodged their complaints on social media.
System restoration and further updates
A senior AAI official said ATC operations are now stable, but slower than normal. It may take a few hours to clear the backlog. This delay has also affected Lucknow, Jaipur, Chandigarh and Amritsar airports.
