UP Defense Industrial Corridor: Under the Defense Industrial Corridor in Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh, Bharat Electronics Limited will invest Rs 562 crore and set up a unit to make radar and air defense systems. This will create more than 300 employment opportunities and will give new impetus to industrial development in Bundelkhand.
A major step has been taken towards promoting defense production in Uttar Pradesh. Chief Minister Yogi on Wednesday handed over the allotment letter of 75 hectares of land in Chitrakoot node of Uttar Pradesh Defense Industrial Corridor to Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). This decision is being considered to give a new impetus to industrial development in Bundelkhand region.
The government believes that this project will not only strengthen defense production but will also create new employment opportunities for the local youth.
Hi-tech defense manufacturing center to be built in Chitrakoot
The Chief Minister said that BEL will set up a modern manufacturing unit in Chitrakoot node by investing about ₹562.5 crore. State-of-the-art defense equipment like radar and air defense systems will be made in this unit. This project is also considered strategically important for Uttar Pradesh, because Chitrakoot’s location and better connectivity make it suitable for defense production.

More than 300 youth will get direct employment
According to the government, this project will create more than 300 direct employment opportunities. Apart from this, there is a possibility of providing indirect employment to thousands of people in supply chain, small industries and other supporting sectors. The Chief Minister said that this will reduce the need for the youth of Bundelkhand to migrate to big cities for jobs.
Industrial base will increase in Bundelkhand
Chitrakoot has till now been known for its religious and cultural identity. But with this new project, this area can now emerge as an emerging center of defense manufacturing. The government believes that such projects will increase industrial activities in Bundelkhand and strengthen the economy of the region.
‘Self-reliant India’ mission will get strength
The Chief Minister said this initiative will boost indigenous defense production and help reduce dependence on imports from abroad. Besides, this will also benefit the MSME sector, because along with big defense projects, new opportunities are also created for small and medium industries.
Technology, research and innovation will get a boost
With this new unit of BEL, new technology, research and innovation will also be encouraged in the field. This is being considered an important step towards developing a strong industrial ecosystem in the state. Experts believe that if other projects of the Defense Corridor also progress in the same manner, then Uttar Pradesh can become one of the major defense production centers of the country in the coming years.
