How did Zomato get its name?
As Foodibay’s business grew, Deepinder and Pankaj left their jobs. Deepinder’s wife’s financial support and business growth inspired him to focus entirely on Zomato. Foodibay, launched in 2008, became the largest restaurant directory in Delhi-NCR by adding more than 2,000 restaurants in just 9 months. The name Foodibay was a bit tricky and confusing. So in 2010 it was rebranded as Zomato. After success in Delhi, Zomato established its presence in Pune, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad. In 2012, the company also started overseas business and expanded to Sri Lanka, UAE, UK, South Africa and later to New Zealand, Türkiye and Brazil.
