DC vs MI: In one of the most dramatic finishes of IPL 2025 so far, Mumbai Indians clinched a 12-run victory over Delhi Capitals, thanks to a sensational hat-trick of run-outs in the 19th over at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday.
Chasing a daunting target of 206, Delhi Capitals found themselves in a promising position needing just 23 runs from the final two overs with four wickets in hand.
Ashutosh Sharma kept the hosts alive with two boundaries off Jasprit Bumrah early in the 19th over. But the tide turned rapidly.
On the fourth delivery, Ashutosh was run out while attempting a second run. Kuldeep Yadav suffered the same fate off the next ball, caught short at the striker’s end after trying to convert a single into a double.
Then came a moment of brilliance from Mitchell Santner, who fielded the ball at midwicket and threw down the stumps with a one-handed direct hit to dismiss Mohit Sharma. Delhi crumbled from 192/7 to 193 all out, losing three wickets in as many balls – all via run-outs – as MI pulled off a rare team hat-trick in the field.
Earlier, Mumbai Indians posted an imposing 205/5 after being put in to bat. Tilak Varma was the standout performer, smashing a 33-ball 59, while opener Ryan Rickelton (41), Suryakumar Yadav (40), and Naman Dhir (38* off 17) provided valuable contributions. Vipraj Nigam picked up two wickets for Delhi but was expensive.
In reply, Delhi’s top order faltered early but Karun Nair’s blazing 89 off 40 balls kept them in the hunt. However, consistent breakthroughs from MI spinners and tight death bowling by Bumrah (1/44) and Santner (2/32) kept the pressure mounting.
Karn Sharma was key in the middle overs with 3/36, while Santner’s all-round brilliance – with ball and in the field – proved decisive.
With this win, Mumbai climbed up the table, while Delhi will rue a match that slipped through their fingers, quite literally, with three run-outs in a single over.
