The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 is all set to begin on March 26 (Thursday). However, the league has been rocked with several big blows.
The ongoing Pakistan-Afghanistan war has forced the league to be played behind closed doors in just two venues- Lahore and Karachi. Several players too have pulled out of the tournament in favour of IPL contracts, while an armed group has threatened to attack the league. On the other hand, Bangladesh state minister for youth and sports, Aminul Haque had reiterated that the players of the country would not travel to Pakistan if security threats persisted. Now, it looks like they have reversed on this statement officially, just a day after.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, the Bangladesh government has cleared the players to travel to Pakistan and take part in the . The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had earlier stated that they would only act in accordance to what the government has to say. Shortly after this decision, four players departed from Bangladesh to Pakistan to take part in the league.
“We discussed the situation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which then communicated with our High Commission in Islamabad. After receiving assurances, we granted permission for participation in the PSL,” a top official from the Bangladesh government informed the publication.
A total of six Bangladesh players namely Mustafizur Rahman, Parvez Hossain Emon, Shoriful Islam, Nahid Rana, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, and Rishad Hossain have been picked by the different franchises to play in the PSL 2026.
Bangladesh High Commission In Pakistan Assures Safety
The Bangladesh High Commission in Pakistan also sent a letter to the BCB informing that the players who would travel to Pakistan to play the PSL would be safe.
“Please be informed that both Pakistan and Afghanistan have declared ceasefire before Eid-ul Azha. It is expected that the ceasefire will sustain for time being. The venues for PSL matches are selected in Lahore and Karachi which are safe enough. Yesterday Pakistan Cricket Control Board announced that there would be no public gathering at the stadium. Concerned authority of Pakistan are committed to ensure safety and security of the cricketers,” the letter stated.
“Under these circumstances, the Mission recommends that Bangladeshi cricketers can participate at the PSL matches,” it added.
