Ravi Teja’s “Irumudi”, directed by Shiva Nirvana, has delivered a massive opening at the worldwide box office, surpassing expectations on its first day. The film had generated positive pre-release buzz, but neither the makers nor the distributors expected it to record one of the biggest openings of the year.
The Day 1 numbers have come as a pleasant surprise and mark a strong comeback for Ravi Teja, whose recent films struggled at the box office.
Ravi Teja’s last few releases failed to make an impact, and his films had also stopped posting big numbers on the opening day. His movies particularly struggled in North America, where several releases ended up with heavy losses.
Given this backdrop, “Irumudi” was expected to have a modest start and build momentum through positive reviews and word of mouth. However, the film has done exactly the opposite, registering a huge opening right from Day 1.
In India, “Irumudi” has grossed around Rs 17 crore on its first day. This is a big number for a Ravi Teja starrer, especially considering the performance of his recent films. In North America, the film has collected nearly $400K, while the overall overseas gross is expected to be around Rs 6 crore.
The worldwide Day 1 gross is estimated at approximately Rs 23 crore, making it the biggest opening of Ravi Teja’s career.
Interestingly, “Irumudi” has also recorded strong traction on ticket-booking platform BookMyShow, with around 4.84 lakh tickets sold. It currently stands just behind Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu, which has recorded the biggest ticket sales among Telugu films this year.
With strong reviews and positive word of mouth, “Irumudi” is now expected to maintain its momentum through the weekend.
