Cricket Australia on Monday announced Darcie Brown, the fast bowler from Australia, has been ruled out of the upcoming Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2026 season.
He’s still not fit enough to get back in the training paddock and has been ruled out of the competition, which is to be held from October 29 to December 5.
The delay further hinders her buildup for a potential comeback at Australia’s national team in 2027 when the first T20 Women’s Champions Trophy is played in India.
Brown, who sustained a disc injury in her back during the Australia A tour of India last month, when she featured in two T20s and an unofficial one-day game.
The injury has now kept her out of Australia’s three-match T20I series and three-match ODI series against Bangladesh.
Cricket Australia was optimistic that Brown would be able to play the second half of the WBBL after laying off the turf for a while to get some rest.
Meanwhile, tests after she returned from India revealed that she was not clear to begin training again.
This ruling puts an end to her goal of playing in this season’s competition, where she was projected to be an integral part of the pace attack for the Adelaide Strikers.
Brown’s immediate concern will now be to regain full fitness and resume playing professional cricket. Brown has appeared six times in the longer format, 30 times in one-day internationals and 41 times in T20 internationals for Australia.
The pacer was also omitted from Australia’s T20 World Cup team earlier this year and was hopeful of forcing her way back into the side through domestic cricket.
A potential target could be the T20 Women’s Champions Trophy to be held in India from 14-28 February but she will need to recover fully and be selected.
