She was 96 years old and was ill for a long time. At the age of just 8, she was married as the third wife of Darbhanga Maharaja. He died at his Kalyani residence on Monday morning, due to which the historical Darbhanga royal family has once again come into the news.

The Darbhanga royal family made a huge contribution to India’s freedom movement, education, culture and national crises, which is not mentioned much in modern history. On Monday, the last rites of Queen Kamasundari Devi were performed as per royal traditions at the Darbhanga royal complex. Thousands of people attended his last journey. The last rites of all the Maharajas and Maharanis of the royal family are performed in the Madeshwarnath complex of Kameshwar Nagar. The last rites of Queen Kamasundari Devi were also performed there.

Maharani Kamasundari Devi was the third wife of Maharaja Kameshwar Singh, the last king of Darbhanga Raj and they were married in the 1940s. Maharaja Kameshwar Singh died in 1962. His first wife Maharani Rajalakshmi Devi died in 1976 and his second wife Maharani Kameshwari Priya in 1940. The Maharaja had no children from any marriage.

Donated 600 kg gold in 1962 war

During the India-China war of 1962, Darbhanga Maharaja was the first to help on the government’s appeal. 15 maunds i.e. 600 kg of gold was weighed and donated to the government at Indrabhavan ground in Darbhanga. Along with this, he also donated three aircraft and his 90-acre private airport. Today Darbhanga Airport is built on land donated by the same royal family.
