Daler Mehndi Controversy: Son Gurdeep Says ‘Painful and Unfortunate’

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Singer Daler Mehndi’s son, Gurdeep Mehndi, has addressed the ongoing controversy involving his father and Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal.

Gurdeep described the situation as ‘painful’ and ‘unfortunate’ in a video shared on his Instagram.

The controversy arose after Minister Uniyal reportedly interrupted Daler Mehndi during a performance at the Siddhpeeth Maa Kunjapuri Tourism and Development Fair in Narendra Nagar, questioning his singing ability. A video of the incident went viral, leading to allegations that Mehndi was intoxicated or lip-syncing. Uniyal later claimed he questioned Mehndi because he believed the singer was lip-syncing and was unhappy with the performance, for which Mehndi was allegedly paid Rs 35 lakh.

Gurdeep stated that his father, despite the stress, maintains a positive outlook. He also mentioned that his father was unwell at the time. Gurdeep thanked the film fraternity and his uncle, Mika Singh, for their support. Mika Singh had previously clarified that Daler Mehndi does not consume alcohol and has been recovering from an operation, explaining that he uses backing tracks due to his health. Mika demanded an apology from the Uttarakhand Minister, highlighting Daler’s recent health issues.
