Cyclonic storm Montha hit Andhra Pradesh coast on Tuesday at a speed of 100 km per hour. There is alert in many states due to the storm moving towards Odisha. 120 trains and 52 flights have been cancelled, while 25 NDRF teams are engaged in relief work.
Cyclone Montha Landfall: Cyclonic storm Montha has reached the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour. According to the Meteorological Department, it hit Machilipatnam coast on Tuesday, after which it can now cross the coast near Kakinada between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam. Due to the storm, strong winds are blowing in the area. Also, 15 feet high waves are rising in the sea. In view of the danger, the Meteorological Department and the administration have issued an alert to fishermen not to go near the beach.
When will Hurricane Montha hit Odisha?
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), this storm can hit the Odisha coast on Wednesday 29 October. At present its center is in the Bay of Bengal, which is 20 km from Machilipatnam, while 220 km from the Visakhapatnam coast. This storm is moving towards Odisha at a speed of 17 kilometers per hour.
120 trains, 52 flights canceled
There is a possibility of devastation due to Cyclone Motha in the coastal cities of the east coastal states of the country like Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha and Tamil Nadu. Due to strong winds, trees have been uprooted at many places here. 120 trains had to be canceled in the South-Central Railway zone on Monday-Tuesday. At the same time, all 32 flights taking off from Visakhapatnam airport have been cancelled. Apart from this, 16 flights from Vijayawada Airport and 4 from Tirupati have been cancelled.
25 teams of NDRF deployed
Due to the possibility of this storm reaching the coast, 25 teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh and Puducherry. The NDRF said it is working closely with the district administration and monitoring the situation with the weather department for preparedness.
