R Ashwin brought down the curtains on his illustrious IPL career on Wednesday (August 27). The IPL legend announced his retirement from IPL but confirmed that he would continue to play the game.

He will be seen in action in the foreign leagues. Ashwin was part of IPL 2008 but made his debut in 2009. He played the majority of seasons for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Here, we have a look at 5 teams R Ashwin played for in IPL –

R Ashwin started his IPL career with CSK in 2008. He made his debut for the Yellow Army in 2009. Ashwin stayed with CSK till 2015. He moved to Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) for the next two seasons and played under MS Dhoni.

Ashwin missed IPL 2017 due to a sports hernia. Steve Smith replaced Dhoni as the captain for the season. RPS lost to Mumbai Indians in the final.

CSK didn’t acquire Ashwin before the IPL 2018 mega-auction but he was always in their plans. They gave their best shot to re-sign Ashwin, but missed out. Punjab Kings (PBKS) signed him for Rs 7.60 crore and appointed him their captain. Ashwin captained PBKS for two seasons.

He was traded to Delhi Capitals (DC) before IPL 2020. He had a two-year stint at DC. The Shreyas Iyer-led side suffered a defeat against Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2020 final.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) signed Ashwin in the IPL 2022 mega-auction and he had a three-season stint with them. They tried to re-sign him in the IPL 2025 mega-auction. CSK made the winning bid for him and signed him for Rs 9.75 crore.

Ashwin scalped 97 wickets for CSK, 10 wickets for RPS, 25 for PBKS, 20 for DC and 35 wickets for. He finished his IPL career with 187 wickets in 221 matches. Ashwin is a two-time IPL Champion with CSK.
