Regarding the New Year and Magh Mela, the sailor community of Kashi has prepared a master plan for the safety of the devotees. Rules like life jackets, prevention of overloading and fixed fares will be implemented at 84 ghats, so that lakhs of devotees can do Ganga boating safely.

Varanasi: Amidst the sound of New Year and preparations for Magh Mela, Kashi, the city of religion and spirituality, is once again ready to welcome the devotees. Keeping in view the possible crowd of lakhs of tourists and devotees coming from India and abroad, the Sailor Society of Kashi has prepared a comprehensive plan regarding security and order at the Ganga ghats. Thousands of sailors deployed at 84 ghats have pledged that there will be no reduction in the faith, security and convenience of the devotees.

Increased vigilance regarding Magh Mela and New Year

During the Magh Mela organized after Mahakumbh in Prayagraj, a large number of devotees reach Kashi from Prayagraj to take bath and darshan in the Ganga. Keeping this in view, the sailor community has already started preparations. Sailors say that keeping in mind the increasing number of passengers, safety will be given top priority and special vigilance will be taken at every ghat.

Sailor community gathered at Namo Rajghat, big meeting held

Hundreds of people from the sailor community gathered at Namo Rajghat on Friday under the auspices of Maa Ganga Nishad Raj Seva Samiti. In this huge meeting and public meeting organized under the chairmanship of Durga Manjhi, detailed discussions were held regarding the upcoming new year, Magh Mela and the possible crowd of devotees.

Addressing the meeting, Durga Manjhi said that both New Year and Magh Mela are important occasions for Kashi. During this time, lakhs of devotees from Prayagraj reach Kashi after bathing and meditation. The sailor community considers the safety and convenience of such a large number of passengers as a part of their tradition and religion.

Strict instructions to sailors, negligence in safety will not be tolerated

During the meeting, Vinod Kumar Nishad, National President of Maa Ganga Nishad Raj Seva Samiti, issued clear and strict instructions to the sailors working at all the 84 ghats of Kashi. He said that life jacket, tube and rope should be compulsorily present on every boat. There will be no overloading of boats under any circumstances.

He also directed that no sailor will operate the boat after consuming alcohol. If a traveler is seen drowning in the Ganga, the sailor will consider it his duty and duty to save him and will immediately help him, even if it means risking his life.

Action will be taken against charging arbitrary fare

It was also made clear by the committee that no arbitrary fare will be charged from the passengers. The boat will be operated as per the fixed rates only. If any sailor is caught violating the rules, legal action will be taken against him by the committee.

Sailor community’s resolution regarding safety of devotees

The sailor community says that the identity of Kashi is linked to Ganga, ghat and faith, and it is their responsibility to protect this identity. In view of the arrival of lakhs of devotees during New Year and Magh Mela, Navik Samaj is fully prepared, so that every devotee coming to Kashi can return safe, satisfied and with a spiritual experience.
