Crime – Aamir Khan Threat Claims Under Mumbai Police Investigation After Viral Post

Mumbai Police have launched an inquiry into claims that Bollywood actor Aamir Khan received a threat allegedly linked to individuals identifying themselves as associates of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, following the circulation of a viral social media post and voice recording.

Mumbai Police have begun examining the authenticity of a social media message and an audio clip that allegedly threatened Bollywood actor Aamir Khan. The material, which has spread widely online, is said to have been issued by two individuals claiming links to jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Authorities have clarified that the investigation is currently focused on determining whether the circulating content is genuine.

Police Verify Viral Message and Audio Clip

Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti confirmed on Saturday that officials are assessing the credibility of both the social media post and the accompanying voice note before taking any further action. He stated that investigators are verifying whether the material is authentic.

Police also confirmed that neither Aamir Khan nor anyone representing the actor has submitted a formal complaint regarding the alleged threat so far. The inquiry is therefore being carried out based on the viral content currently available in the public domain.

Alleged Messages Contain Accusations and Warning

According to investigators, the social media post and voice recording were reportedly released by two men identifying themselves as Arzu Bishnoi and Tyson Bishnoi. In the messages, they claimed to be associates of Lawrence Bishnoi and accused Aamir Khan of promoting what they described as “love jihad,” referring to the actor’s recent marriage to Gauri Spratt.

The individuals further warned that people allegedly encouraging such activities would face consequences. However, the authenticity of these claims has not yet been independently verified, and police are continuing their investigation before drawing any conclusions.

The expression “love jihad” has been used by certain right-wing groups to describe an alleged conspiracy involving Muslim men marrying Hindu women with the intention of religious conversion. However, there is no credible evidence supporting the existence of any organised conspiracy of this nature.

Voice Recording Also Refers to Rajasthan Case

The audio clip also reportedly mentioned a recent criminal case involving a 13-year-old girl from Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar district. The recording referred to allegations that the minor had been abducted, trafficked, and sexually assaulted. It additionally warned political leaders against providing protection to any individuals accused in that case.

Police have not confirmed whether the voice note is genuine or whether the people featured in it are connected to the claims made in the recording.

Previous Cases Linked to Lawrence Bishnoi Gang

Lawrence Bishnoi and members of his alleged gang have previously been named in several investigations involving threats against public figures. Actor Salman Khan has remained one of the most prominent targets over the years. Investigators have linked those threats to the long-running dispute connected with the 1998 blackbuck poaching case, which later escalated into repeated death threats and the firing incident outside the actor’s Mumbai residence in April 2024.

Separately, United States authorities have also charged Lawrence Bishnoi and his close associate Satinderjeet Singh, also known as Goldy Brar, in connection with an alleged conspiracy to assassinate Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada.

Other Investigations Continue

Earlier this year, unidentified gunmen allegedly fired multiple rounds at filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residential building in Mumbai’s Juhu area, with one bullet striking the glass exterior of a gym located inside the premises.

In April, Mumbai Police filed a 1,624-page chargesheet before a special MCOCA court against 17 accused in that case. While 15 suspects have been arrested, Shubham Lonkar and Arzu Bishnoi remain absconding. Investigators had earlier stated that both individuals allegedly claimed responsibility for the firing through a social media post.
