New Delhi: India ended their Edgbaston drought in style, registering a commanding 336-run victory over England in the second Test to level the five-match series 1-1. The Men in Blue set a daunting target of 608, which was not possible to achieve as rain delayed the game. England were bowled out for 271 on the final day, unable to withstand the relentless pressure applied by India’s bowlers despite clear conditions aiding batting.
The star of the match was pacer Akash Deep, who came in as a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah. Akash was playing only his second test of his career, delivering a performance to remember. The star seamer had a maiden five-wicket haul in the second innings and overall finished with a match tally of 10 wickets. His final act came as he removed Brydon Carse, whose quick cameo came to an end as Shubman Gill took the catch that sealed India’s first-ever Test win at Edgbaston. India had a dominant victory at a venue where they had never won a single game in eight attempts, losing seven and drawing just one.
Mohammed Siraj also achieved his five-wicket haul during the series. India’s dominance began with the bat as captain Shubman Gill led from the front, crafting a composed century in the first innings before elevating the tempo with a double century in the second.
Gill’s leadership and run-scoring prowess anchored the visitors throughout the match. The Indian batting unit piled up 449 in the first innings followed by a rapid 311/5 declared in the second, leaving England with an improbable chase on a pitch showing signs of variable bounce.
Despite a fighting effort from Jamie Smith and Brydson Carse the Lions never truly threatened to chase down the target. The disciplined Indian bowling unit capitalised on every opportunity, maintaining tight lines and striking at crucial intervals to keep the hosts under constant pressure.
This historic win not only marked India’s maiden Test victory at Edgbaston but also reaffirmed their strength in away conditions as the young squad took the Test legacy in their hands.
Meanwhile, X has been lit up by the cricket world praising India’s clinical display-
Great victory for India at Edgbaston. Fearless and kept pushing England to the wall. Brilliantly led by Shubhman with the bat and in the field and impactful performances from everyone. Special mention to Siraj and Akash for the way they bowled on this pitch. 👏🇮🇳 @ShubmanGill…

Outstanding win in Birmingham. While this should be remembered as the Shubman Gill Test match for his incredible 430 runs, but the efforts from Siraj in the first innings and Akash Deep in both innings on a surface which didn’t have much for the bowlers was an outstanding effort.… pic.twitter.com/qwrdnjMcHl
