Bareilly: The bride broke the marriage accusing him of demanding dowry. At the same time, the groom says that the girl refused to marry him because of his obesity. The groom alleged that the girl’s family members constantly made fun of her obesity and body shamed her. This incident happened last Friday in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. The bride said that the groom and his family had demanded dowry, that is why she refused the marriage. But, the groom has given his clarification on this matter. The 29-year-old boy alleged that the bride and her family held him hostage and also looted valuables.

The groom and his family had reached the bride’s house for the wedding rituals. At the same time the bride talked about withdrawing from the marriage. The bride alleged that the groom’s family had demanded dowry of Rs 20 lakh and a car. The video of this incident also went viral on social media. However, later the groom accused the bride’s family. The boy said that the bride broke the marriage because he was fat. Since the engagement, the bride’s family used to make fun of her obesity. But then the bride said that she had no problem with it. The boy alleges that when they arrived for the wedding rituals, the girl refused to marry him.

The boy, a fashion designer by profession, says that the bride’s family is pretending to give dowry to get back the money spent on the wedding. The boy also said that the bride and her family are demanding Rs 50 lakh. At the same time, the police say that the bride’s family has lodged a complaint against the boy for demanding dowry and a case has also been registered under the Dowry Prohibition Act. However, the police is also saying that no evidence of dowry demand has been found.
