The country’s first hydrogen water taxi started in Varanasi. It will run from Namo Ghat to Ravidas Ghat for pollution free transportation in Ganga. This indigenous taxi with a capacity of 50 passengers is built in Kochi Shipyard.

The country’s first hydrogen-powered water taxi was inaugurated in Kashi, will provide relief from pollution. The country’s first hydrogen-powered water taxi was inaugurated by Union Water Transport Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at Namo Ghat in Prime Minister’s parliamentary constituency Varanasi. This taxi will run from 10 am to 8 pm

The water taxi will be operated by the Shipping Corporation of India. Which will run from 10 am to 8 pm between Namo Ghat and Ravidas Ghat. This hydrogen water taxi has a seating capacity of 50 people.

It has been constructed with completely indigenous technology. This water taxi has been manufactured in Kochi Shipyard. Ten crores have been spent on its construction. With the country’s first hydrogen water taxi running in the Ganga, it is also being seen as a pollution-free transport service. To supply hydrogen as fuel for this water taxi, two hydrogen pumping stations have been built at Namo Ghat and Assi Ghat.

Bengaluru company will operate it

The hydrogen pumping station will be operated by Bengaluru-based company New India Hydrogen. The fare has not been decided yet but it is being told that the fare has been fixed at Rs 500/- per person between Namo Ghat and Assi Ghat. Later it will be run till Markandeya Mahadev located in Kaithi. There is also talk about operating this water taxi between Kashi and Ayodhya.
