Former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic believes Novak Djokovic has every chance of extending his career until the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, saying the Serbian’s unique mentality and carefully managed schedule could allow him to continue competing at the highest level.
Djokovic, who turned 39 this year, has repeatedly stated that he hopes to play at the Los Angeles Games, where he would be 41. Despite his age, the 24-time Grand Slam champion remains among the ATP Tour’s elite, reaching the Australian Open final and Wimbledon semi-finals in 2026.

Speaking to Croatian publication Jutarnji, Ivanisevic backed his former player to achieve his Olympic ambition, insisting there is little reason to doubt Djokovic’s longevity.
“He says he plans to play until the Los Angeles Olympics, and that’s still two years away. Honestly, knowing him, I think he’s capable of doing it with the schedule he plays and with a mind that’s simply incredible, truly unique. It’s possible,” Ivanisevic said.
The Croatian added that Djokovic continues to belong among the very best players in men’s tennis despite the emergence of a new generation.
“After all, even today he’s right behind Sinner, Alcaraz and Zverev-or you could also say that the four of them are above everyone else. So why not?”

The Serbian has consistently indicated that he intends to keep playing as long as he remains capable of challenging for the sport’s biggest titles.
Although Djokovic has not won a Grand Slam since the 2023 US Open, his performances in 2026 suggest he remains a contender, having reached the Australian Open final and the Wimbledon semi-finals.
Following his defeat to Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon, Djokovic also dismissed suggestions that retirement was imminent.
When asked whether he planned to return to the All England Club in 2027, the seven-time Wimbledon champion replied:
“I would like to, at least one more time. Let’s see.”
His comments, coupled with Ivanisevic’s confidence, reinforce the growing belief that Djokovic could continue competing through the 2028 season, with the Los Angeles Olympics remaining one of the final major milestones in his legendary career.
