Coldrif cough syrup: A big revelation has come to light in the case of death of 20 children due to drinking Coldrif cough syrup in Madhya Pradesh. Dr. Praveen Soni, arrested in this case, has admitted that he gave Coldrif cough syrup to children for 10% commission.

A similar case has come to light from Madhya Pradesh. Here recently, 20 children died after drinking Coldrif cough syrup. Madhya Pradesh Police told the district court that arrested doctor Praveen Soni has admitted to taking 10% commission from the company for prescribing Coldrif cough syrup. Many children died due to this cough syrup. The scary thing is that even after the doctor knew that this cough syrup could be fatal for children, he continued to prescribe it in the greed of commission.

The court has refused to grant bail to Dr. Praveen Soni. Police told the court that the doctor had admitted to taking 10% commission from the pharmaceutical company manufacturing Coldrif cough syrup for prescribing it. According to the police, Dr. Soni and some other doctors even after observing that the children who drank this syrup had severe difficulty in passing urine. He had kidney related problems. Even after this he continued writing Coldrif cough syrup. The children were becoming seriously ill, but the doctor continued to give them poisonous medicine.

Doctor’s 10% commission has dangerous consequences

Police said that during interrogation, the doctor confessed to taking 10% commission from the company for promoting the medicine. Police told the court that at least seven children died after being given Coldrif medicine. Six other children are undergoing treatment for kidney failure at a hospital in Nagpur.

The investigation revealed that Dr Soni prescribed Coldrif cough syrup to several children under the age of 7 years between August 24 and October 4, even though he knew that the medicine should not be given to children of such a young age. According to police records, the first girl died on August 29. A 4-year-old girl died after being given Coldriff for cough. After this, another 3-year-old girl died on 5 September. His urination had stopped and his kidneys had failed.

Medicines like Coldrif should not be given to children below 4 years of age.

In its order dated October 8, the court cited the Union Health Ministry’s 2023 guidelines. It warned that fixed dose combination (FDC) medicines like Coldrif should not be given to children under 4 years of age. The court found that despite these instructions, Dr. Soni continued prescribing syrup to the children.
