Corona virus cases are now negligible, but now once again the concern about Corona has started increasing all over the world. The SARS-CoV-2 BA.3.2 variant of Covid is now slowly spreading in many countries including America. According to America’s health organization CDC, this variant has been reported in 23 countries. Being tracked through traveller-based genomic surveillance program. By March 2026, this variant has been found in 6 international travelers in the US and more than two dozen patients in 29 states. The cases of this variant are continuously increasing.
Cases of SARS-CoV-2 BA.3.2 variant were reported in South Africa two years ago. After that the cases started decreasing, but now its cases are being reported in many countries including America. The matter of concern is that about 75 mutations have occurred in the spike protein of this variant. This means that this variant of Corona is constantly changing itself. In such a situation, there is a possibility that the vaccine will be less effective on this variant.
This variant has the ability to dodge the body’s immunity, which can increase the risk of infection. However, it is a matter of relief that its serious symptoms have not been seen yet. But its transmission rate i.e. the rate of spread is high. In such a situation, there is a possibility of further increase in cases in America in the coming days.
The effect of this variant has been seen in Europe also
The BA.3.2 variant has also spread in Europe. There were many cases of this last year. Of the total Covid cases, about 35 percent were cases of the SARS-CoV-2 BA.3.2 variant. However, even then the patients had only mild symptoms. But the cases increased rapidly. Cases were also reported in Denmark and Netherlands. Now cases are continuously coming to light in America also.
Does India need to worry?
Epidemiologist Dr. Jugal Kishore says that there does not appear to be any major threat from this variant in India. No official case of this has come to light here. Most of the people in India have been vaccinated and the symptoms of Covid here are similar to normal flu. The variant that is spreading in America is not new either. In such a situation, there is no need to panic. There is no possibility of any threat in India like before Covid. However, there is still a need to remain alert.
