New Delhi: Coretura AB, the joint venture formed by Volvo Group and Daimler Truck, is looking for a location for its second global research and development centre. The company is still new, and it wants to expand its work on software for commercial vehicles. For this expansion, Bengaluru has become one of the strongest options. The city has a large pool of engineers who specialise in software and embedded systems, which is exactly what the company needs.
Right now, Coretura has around 50-60 employees globally. It plans to grow this number to 450-600 by the year 2030. If the company decides to set up the new centre in Bengaluru, it expects that around 100–150 people will eventually work there. Johan Lundén, the CEO, told ET Auto, “If we set up in Bengaluru, it would likely be 100-150 people over time.”
Coretura Expands Hiring of Indian Engineers
The company is also hiring Indian engineers for its teams in both India and Sweden. Currently, nine Indian engineers are already working in Gothenburg, and the number is expected to increase. Lundén said, “India is extremely attractive for its ecosystem of talent and competence.”
Coretura’s main focus is to build new software-defined vehicle (SDV) platforms. These platforms will allow commercial vehicles to run digital applications in a more flexible and modern way. Although the company is based in Europe, it plans to serve customers worldwide. As Lundén explained, “Our market is global. Whatever we bring must be compatible with any Volvo Group and Daimler parts of the world.”
India’s Rising Role in SDV Tech
Besides Volvo and Daimler, the company is also in talks with Iveco and some Indian vehicle manufacturers about its SDV architecture. Lundén said, “We are looking all over the world for partners where India, Europe and the US can bring the best solutions.” This simply shows that India, especially Bengaluru, is becoming a key location for global automotive software development.
