NCERT Forms Panel to Review Textbook: NCERT’s new books have been formed a committee of experts after many objections related to history. Issues and facts such as Jaisalmer will be shown part of the Maratha Empire and the wrong picture of Ahom history will be examined.
Ncert textbook controversy 2025: After the change in the books taught to the school children of the country, now many questions have arisen in front of NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training). People and historians from different states have objected to the facts given in some books. Regarding this, NCERT has now taken an important step and constituted a committee of experts, which will investigate all these feedback and complaints.
Why did NCET need to form a committee?
NCERT has recently updated books from class 1 to 12 according to the new course. Books up to class 8 have already arrived and 9 to 12th books are coming from the end of the year. But as new books came, questions started to arise about many parts. Some of these are big objections, in which Jaisalmer of Rajasthan is described as part of the Maratha Empire in the Class 8 social science book. There has also been a dispute over information related to the Ahom Empire of Assam. At the same time, there has also been a strong reaction to the removal of Odisha’s 1817 Paika Rebellion from the book.
Who objected to NCERT’s new books?
Chaitanya Raj Singh, a descendant of the former royal family of Jaisalmer, has described Jaisalmer as a part of the Maratha Empire to tamper with history. Describing it as wrong, misleading and agenda-inspired, he has demanded improvement from Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed displeasure over the removal of the 1817 Paika Rebellion from the history book. He said that this was a big turn in the history of Odisha and ignoring it is to reduce the sacrifice of Pika warriors.
Actor R. Madhavan has also given his opinion on this issue. He said that Mughal and British rule has been given a lot of space in books, but Chola, Pandya, Pallava and Cher dynasty of South India have got very little importance.
Who assigned the responsibility of investigating the objection expressed regarding NCERT books?
To investigate the entire case, an expert committee has been formed under the leadership of Ranjana Arora, head of NCERT Department of Curriculum Studies and Development. This committee will review all feedback and historical facts and then submit its report to NCERT as soon as possible.

What things will the expert committee constituted by NCERT investigate?
NCERT has made it clear that whenever there is widespread response to the content of a book, reviewing it is part of their policy. If a part is required to improve, appropriate action is taken on it. Currently, the committee is focusing on these points-
- Case of describing Jaisalmer as Maratha Empire in class 8 book.
- Information related to the Ahom dynasty of Assam.
- Non-existence of Paika Rebellion.
- Less importance to the major dynasties of South India.
- Will examine the facts of objections related to the books of commercial and physical education.
