Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president Rao Narender Singh has said the Congress will take on the BJP government in the upcoming Assembly session on a wide range of issues affecting citizens across the state.
Speaking to ‘The Tribune’ at the residence of former Assandh MLA Shamsher Singh Gogi, Singh said the Opposition would demand detailed replies on “poor law and order, rising unemployment, agrarian distress and the failure to provide basic facilities.”
Singh alleged that the law and order situation had deteriorated significantly, claiming that “organised gangs are demanding ransom openly,” which he said has created fear among residents. On agrarian issues, he stated that the alleged paddy procurement scam, the government’s failure to provide MSP on paddy and other crops, and recurring shortages of DAP and urea had left farmers struggling throughout the season.
“From farmers to youth, from sportspersons to government employees, every class is suffering. Law and order has collapsed, farmers are battling for MSP and fertilisers, unemployment is at an all-time high, and there is no sports infrastructure despite Haryana leading in medals. We will question the government on each of these issues,” he said.
He further criticised the government over HPSC recruitments, stating that the selection of candidates from other states had created resentment among Haryana’s youth. Singh accused the government of trying to divert public attention from unemployment and inflation. “Inflation and unemployment are rising, but instead of addressing people’s concerns, the government is holding discussions on Vande Mataram in Parliament to distract the public,” he remarked.
Singh also spoke about the Congress’s recently launched talent hunt initiative aimed at identifying “sharp minds, bold voices and people with a spirit who can fearlessly defend the idea of India.” The platform, he said, would help train and empower individuals willing to speak up, lead and contribute to building an inclusive nation.
On strengthening party organisation, Singh said the HPCC would soon be fully restructured. “The state body will be formed shortly, followed by district and block bodies,” he said.
Announcing a rally in Delhi on December 14 on the issue of ‘Vote Chori’, Singh said, “Rahul Gandhi has exposed how people’s votes were stolen with the help of fake voters and mechanism. People from Haryana will participate in this rally in large numbers.”
He criticised the use of water cannons on Congress workers in Kurukshetra and urged the government to engage meaningfully with protesting doctors. Dismissing any talk of internal rift, he said, “There is no infighting. All leaders are on the same page and working to strengthen the party.”
