New Delhi: In what comes as a big blow to Pakistan cricket, a complaint has been filed against legendary pacer Wasim Akram for his alleged links with a betting app. An official confirmed to news agency PTI on Tuesday that Akram has been accused for allegedly endorsing and associating with an online gambling and betting platform relating to sports.
The report mentions that the complaint has been filed by Muhammad Fiaz with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Lahore, seeking legal action against the former fast bowler for promoting a gambling and betting app. The complainant has claimed that the former Pakistan skipper was linked with a foreign betting app named Baji as its brand ambassador.

As per the complaint, a poster has been circulating on social media with a video clip showing the former pacer endorsing the online platform. This has sparked massive interest among several other general users in app leading to the rise in their numbers. The complainant further requested the NCCIA to take strict legal action against Akram under the Electronic Crimes Act of 2016.
An official from the NCCIA confirmed to news agency PTI on August 19 that they have received a complaint against Akram for being the brand ambassador of a foreign betting app. They further said that if allegations are found true, they will take action against the legendary bowler. Akram is yet to issue any statement in the matter.
This comes after a famous TikToker and YouTuber Saad-ur-Rehman, popularly known as Ducky Bhai, was arrested at the Lahore airport on Saturday. He was arrested by the police in connection with the promotion of the same betting app and it is being learnt that his arrest has led to Akram being named in the complaint.
