College student abducted, gang-raped by 3 men near Coimbatore airport; Police launch manhunt

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Police have launched an intensive investigation and formed seven special teams to apprehend three men accused of abducting and gang-raping a college student in a shocking incident near the Coimbatore airport.

The attack occurred late on Tuesday night when the victim was speaking with her male friend inside a car parked behind the airport premises. According to police sources, three unidentified men approached the vehicle, assaulted the young man, and forcibly abducted the woman.

The sequence of events, as pieced together from the initial complaint, began around 11:00 PM. The assailants launched a brutal attack on the woman’s friend, seriously injuring him before taking the student away. The injured youth managed to alert the police, who immediately initiated a massive search operation.

After hours of searching, the police successfully located and rescued the survivor at approximately 4:00 AM, a short distance from the scene of the abduction. Officials reported that she was found in a state of undress.

Victims Undergoing Treatment, Police Pursue Leads

Both victims are currently receiving medical care. The survivor is undergoing treatment at a private hospital, while her male friend, who sustained injuries during the assault, is being treated at a government hospital.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the city, prompting a swift and robust response from the police force. A senior police official confirmed that the primary focus is on identifying and arresting the three perpetrators.

“We have constituted seven special teams to investigate this heinous crime. Our teams are working on several leads, and we are confident of apprehending the accused soon,” the official stated.

The police are analysing local CCTV footage and conducting door-to-door inquiries in the area.
