UP Sports Awards: On National Sports Day, CM Yogi Adityanath bowed to Major Dhyanchand and honored 88 medal winning players, handed over appointment letters to assistant sports trainers and announced the expansion of sports infrastructure and sports colleges in UP.
National Sports Day: On National Sports Day, the capital Lucknow echoed with sportsmanship and enthusiasm. In a grand ceremony held at Mohammad Shahid Hockey Stadium, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath saluted him on the birth anniversary of hockey magician Major Dhyanchand and described the players as the real hero of nation building.
Sports brings discipline and dedication to life
The Chief Minister said that every player is not only the field but also the hero of the society. Sports discipline, coordination and teamwork of life teach us the dedication to the nation. He called upon every citizen to move beyond the spirit of nation building like a player.
Honoring 88 medal winners and appointment letters to trainers
In the program, CM Yogi presented prizes to 88 players who won medals in national competitions. Besides, appointment letters were also handed over to assistant sports instructors. The Sports Minister honored the Chief Minister by wearing a finger on the occasion.

Major Dhyanchand’s legacy and sports university
CM said that Major Dhyanchand gave gold medals in the Olympics of 1928, 1932 and 1936 to give India’s hockey a global identity. In his memory, the first Major Dhyanchand Sports University of the state has been established in Meerut, where the course has started from this session.
Extension of sports infrastructure from Gram Panchayat to district
Yogi told that-
- Sports college is being built in every commissioner.
- The Center of Excellence will develop in each college.
- The process of building a playground in every gram panchayat, mini stadium in every development and stadium in every district is going on.
- Open gym and sports kits are being provided for the youth.
Remember the hockey tradition of UP
CM mentioned the legendary hockey players of the state, Major Dhyanchand, K.D. From Singh Babu, Mohammad Shahid to Lalit Upadhyay and Rajkumar Pal. He said that the players who won the medal in the Paris Olympics are also from Uttar Pradesh.
Employment and encouragement for players
CM Yogi said that the state government has implemented 2% reservation in government jobs for players. So far 500 players have been admitted to police and other departments.

- Asian Games: Gold ₹ 3 Crore, Silver ₹ 1.5 Crore, Bronze ₹ 75 Lakh
- Commonwealth: Gold ₹ 1.5 Crore, Silver ₹ 75 Lakh, Bronze ₹ 50 Lakh
- National Games: Single Gold ₹ 6 Lakh, Silver ₹ 3 Lakh, Bronze ₹ 2 Lakh
CM Yogi raised hockey stick and Lee fitness oath
In the program, the Chief Minister launched the State Hockey Competition by putting a shot from the hockey stick. He administered the oath of fitness to the players and citizens, “I will be publicly fit, will participate in sports and fitness activities every day and assimilate the honor and values of the game.”
