Not a single death in UP due to codeine syrup: CM Yogi

While addressing the House, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath clearly said that till now not a single death has been recorded in Uttar Pradesh due to cough syrup containing codeine. He said that the deaths being cited have occurred in other states due to the syrup manufactured in Tamil Nadu. The CM alleged that licenses to big wholesalers caught by the STF were given during the Samajwadi Party government.

Direct accusation on SP, said – ‘A straw in a thief’s beard’

CM Yogi reacted strongly to the questions raised by SP MLA Atul Pradhan and showing the photo of the accused with Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak. Calling it ‘a straw in a thief’s beard’, he said that the opposition is exposing itself. The Chief Minister said that as the investigation is progressing, names of people associated with SP are coming to light.

Taunt on ‘Babua’ and mention of foreign trip

During the discussion in the Assembly, the Chief Minister compared the leaders of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh and said that there are two ‘models’ in the country, one of whom is sitting here. Taking a dig at the Leader of the Opposition, he said that he feels that the ‘Babua’ here will also soon go on a trip to England. The CM sarcastically said that whenever any serious issue is discussed in the country, some people go abroad. After this comment, Samajwadi Party MLAs walked out of the House.

No manufacturing in UP, only stockists: CM

Regarding the quality of medicines, the Chief Minister clarified that codeine syrup is not manufactured in Uttar Pradesh. Only its stockists and wholesalers are present here. He said that FSDA is continuously conducting raids against fake and illegal medicines. Taking a dig at the Leader of Opposition, the CM said that at this age he should speak the truth, but SP people are still making him lie.

Heated debate on the word ‘sample’

Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey objected to the Chief Minister’s use of the word ‘Numana’ and questioned why such language was being used for leaders. On this, the Assembly Speaker clarified that the CM has not taken anyone’s name. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna also defended the Chief Minister and said that the opposition is unnecessarily trying to divert the issue.

Earlier, while raising the issue of codeine syrup in the House, SP MLA Atul Pradhan had asked the government as to where the ‘bulldozer’ has slept in this matter. He had shown a photograph of the accused along with Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak in the House, after which the atmosphere in the House became more heated.

‘Bulldozer action will also take place, then opposition should not make noise’

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that after investigating this matter in depth, people associated with SP are coming forward. He claimed that illegal transactions have taken place in the account of an officer of Lohia Vahini, which is being investigated by STF. CM warned that bulldozer action will also be taken against the culprits and the opposition should not make noise at that time. He told that this illegal syrup was supplied in those areas where drug prohibition is in force. So far, 79 cases have been registered, 78 arrests have been made and 134 firms have been raided.
