Abhijit Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP), expressed his relief on Friday as activist Sonam Wangchuk concluded his 26-day hunger strike.
Dipke emphasized that their peaceful protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar will persist until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns. In a post on X, he thanked Wangchuk for his remarkable courage and sacrifice during the hunger strike.
During a media interaction, Dipke stated that nothing short of Pradhan’s resignation would be acceptable. He asserted that the protests would continue, highlighting that this movement represents the youth of the nation and is not limited to Wangchuk or Dipke alone. He insisted that if the government seeks a resolution, the only solution is Pradhan’s resignation.
Dipke also mentioned his belief that the government had detained Sonam Wangchuk. While JP Nadda was able to meet him, no opposition MPs were granted the same opportunity, including Dipke himself. He expressed happiness over Wangchuk’s decision to end his hunger strike. Responding to Congress MP Imran Masood’s comments, Dipke reiterated that this protest is for the youth of the country, not for political parties, and assured that the movement would not weaken.
On Friday, discussions between the government and the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP) are set to take place at the Constitution Club of India. The organization stated that the central government has agreed to hold the meeting at a neutral location. However, there has been no official confirmation from the government regarding this matter. This development follows Wangchuk’s decision to end his hunger strike late Thursday night after receiving assurances from the government regarding his main demands.
