CJI Surya Kant Salary: Today a new chapter has been added in the history of Indian judiciary. His Excellency President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath of office and secrecy to Justice Surya Kant in the grand Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan. With this, Justice Surya Kant has become the 53rd Chief Justice of India (CJI). Such a huge amount comes into the bank account every month
The post of Chief Justice of India is full of responsibility and dignity, and accordingly he is given salary and allowances. If we talk about salary directly, then CJI gets a basic salary of Rs 2,80,000 every month. But, this figure is only for basic salary. Apart from this, they are also given many types of special allowances which increase their total earnings.

In addition to the salary, the Chief Justice receives a hospitality allowance of Rs 45,000 every month. This amount is given so that they can welcome and entertain guests as per the dignity of their position. Not only this, they are also provided a furnishing allowance of Rs 10 lakh for decorating and maintaining the house. This ensures that their accommodation always remains organized and of a high standard.
Type-VIII bungalow in the most posh area of Delhi
Salary is one aspect, but the ‘lifestyle facilities’ provided to the Chief Justice are no less than that of a king. To live, they are allotted the highest class i.e. Type-VIII bungalow in the heart of Lutyens’ Delhi. This is the largest and most luxurious category of government residences.
A complete system works in this bungalow. To run the CJI’s daily routine smoothly, servants, cooks and clerks are present at the bungalow 24 hours a day. From security point of view, it is like an impenetrable fort, where strict security is guarded 24 hours a day.
They get a government vehicle and a driver for transportation. The special thing is that he gets a quota of 200 liters of petrol and diesel every month for this vehicle, so that there is no hindrance in official and personal travels. Apart from this, facilities like Travel Allowance and PCO for communication are also part of the package.
Pension and life after retirement
Even after the job, the government takes full care of the Chief Justice. After retirement, they get a good pension as financial security. According to the rules, the CJI is given a pension of Rs 16 lakh 80 thousand annually. Along with this, Dearness Relief is also added, which keeps increasing from time to time.
At the time of retirement, he also gets a gratuity of Rs 20 lakh as a lump sum. This amount is given as a mark of respect for his contribution to the country during his service period. All this together ensures that even after retirement they can live a respectable and comfortable life.
Who is Justice Surya Kant?
Justice Surya Kant becoming the 53rd CJI is also special because he has been connected to the ground. Justice Surya Kant, born in a middle-class family on 10 February 1962 in Hisar district of Haryana, has achieved this position on the basis of his hard work. He studied law from Kurukshetra University, where he stood first in first class with a gold medal.
Justice Surya Kant, who started his career as a small town lawyer, has proved with his ability that talent needs no introduction. During his tenure, he has been a part of many historic constitutional benches and has given judgments on issues of national importance. Now as Chief Justice, he will have about 15 months to give a new direction to the judicial system of the country. He will retire from this post on completing 65 years of age on 9 February 2027.
