Panchak October 2025: In Hindu religion, there is a tradition of considering auspicious and inauspicious times to make any work successful and successful. To know this auspicious time, we often take the help of Panchang made up of five parts i.e. Tithi, Vaar, Nakshatra, Yoga and Karan. What is Panchak and why is it considered inauspicious?
According to astrology, when the Moon transits in the latter half of Dhanishtha Nakshatra, Shatabhisha, Purva Bhadrapada, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati Nakshatra, the time of these five Nakshatras is called Panchak. The Moon takes approximately 5 days to transit through these five constellations. Therefore the period of these 5 days is called Panchak Kaal. It is believed that doing some special work during Panchak period leads to inauspicious results and does not bring success in work.
Types of Panchak and importance of ‘Chor Panchak’
There are five types of Panchak and they are identified by the day on which they start:
- Rog Panchak: Starting on Sunday.
- Raj Panchak: Starting on Monday.
- Agni Panchak: Starting on Tuesday.
- Chor Panchak: Starting on Friday.
- Mrityu Panchak: Starting on Saturday.
Chor Panchak is the Panchak which starts from Friday. In astrology it is considered more inauspicious than other Panchaks.
Why is Chor Panchak so inauspicious?
The risk of financial loss, theft, and loss in business increases in the work done during Chor Panchak. The word ‘thief’ in the name of this Panchak itself means that there is a need to be financially conscious during this time, because it creates a possibility of loss of money. Therefore, special care should be taken in transactions, business and travels during this period.

Southward journey: Traveling towards the south during Panchak is considered prohibited, because this direction is considered to be of Yama (god of death) and ancestors. Traveling during Chor Panchak also increases the risk of theft or accident, so avoid long and important journeys.
Business and Big Deals: Do not start any new business in Chor Panchak. During this time, one should avoid making transactions, big financial investments or deals like buying property, otherwise there may be loss of money and time.
Collecting wood or flammable items: Storing grass, wood or other flammable items during Panchak is considered inauspicious. It is believed that there is a possibility of fire or accident due to this.
Construction of the roof of the house or the cot: Sloping the roof of the house or making a cot/bed during the Panchak period is also considered inauspicious. According to astrologers, doing this can cause troubles and financial losses in the house.
Auspicious and auspicious work: ChoMarriage, engagement, housewarming, mundan or other auspicious activities should not be started during Su Panchak. Also, signing big contracts or taking important decisions should also be avoided.
