China can never be trusted. On one hand, it is extending a hand of friendship to India amid its rift with America, and on the other hand, it is also using its cunning mind.
The visit of China’s foreign minister to India is ending on Wednesday and right after that he is going straight to Islamabad, giving a clear message that it will continue to support Pakistan.
Not only this, the way China has tried to play a trick on the Taiwan issue during the foreign minister’s meeting in India also shows that India needs to be cautious. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Islamabad on Wednesday to attend the annual strategic dialogue to review all-weather ties with Pakistan. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said on Tuesday that Wang will visit Pakistan from August 20-22 and attend the sixth round of China-Pakistan Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
Meanwhile in Islamabad, China’s Foreign Office said Wang is visiting Pakistan at the invitation of Foreign Minister Dar to co-chair the sixth Pakistan-China Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue on August 21. “The visit is part of regular high-level exchanges between Pakistan and China to further deepen their ‘All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership’, reaffirm support on issues of mutual core interests, enhance economic and trade cooperation, and reaffirm their joint commitment to regional peace, development and stability,” a statement said.
Spokesman Mao said at a media briefing in Beijing that this will be Wang’s second visit to Pakistan in three years and the latest high-level exchange between the two countries following recent bilateral meetings and visits.
What did China say about India?
On the question of Foreign Minister Wang’s visit to Pakistan just after his visit to India, spokesperson Mao said that both India and Pakistan are important neighbors of China. He was also asked whether he would discuss India’s concerns on the issue of cross-border terrorism with Pakistan. He said, “We are willing to enhance friendly cooperation with both countries and hope that the differences between these two countries can be handled properly.”
Why is Taiwan issue relevant?
The Chinese Foreign Ministry misrepresented the statement of India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, saying that during his meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, he said that New Delhi considers Taiwan as a part of China. Jaishankar’s conversation with Wang took place on Monday evening, soon after he arrived in India on a two-day visit. After this, India had to expose China’s lie. The Foreign Ministry said, “The Chinese side raised the issue of Taiwan. The Indian side stressed that there has been no change in its position on this issue.”
