Chhath Puja Kharna 2025: In Hinduism, Chhath Mahaparva has immense religious significance dedicated to the worship of Lord Surya who appears every day and Shashthi i.e. Chhathi Maiya. Yesterday, on the Chaturthi Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month, this holy festival started with Nahay-Khay and today, on its second day, Kharna Puja will be performed. In this holy fast, which is observed for the happiness and prosperity of the family and children, strict rules have to be followed for four days. Auspicious time of Kharna
According to Panchami Tithi, today is the Panchami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month, which will last till 6:04 am tomorrow, 27 October 2025. According to Delhi time table, sunrise will be at 6:29 am and sunset will be at 5:41 pm. Therefore, Chhath Puja devotees will be able to perform Kharna Puja after sunset, i.e. after 5:41 pm.

After bathing and meditating on Kharna, the devotee begins a 36-hour waterless fast. Today, on the day of Panchami, devotees abstain from food and water throughout the day and again in the evening take bath and meditate to purify their body and mind. After this, the place of worship is cleaned and the prasad is prepared on a new earthen stove. On this day, there is a tradition of preparing Prasad by taking bath and wearing new clothes. Milk kheer and ghee coated rotis are made as offerings to Chhathi Maiya. This offering prepared with utmost purity does not contain sugar or salt. Jaggery is used in kheer.

Kharna Prasad
There is a tradition of making jaggery kheer during Kharna. This Prasad is made from rice, milk and jaggery. Along with this, rotis or puris are also made from wheat flour. This prasad is first offered to Sun God and Chhathi Maiya. Then the devotee accepts it. After consuming this Prasad, a rigorous 36-hour waterless fast begins.
Chhathi Maiya’s arrival today
According to Hindu belief, the sixth mother who bestows the happiness of children comes on the day of Kharna on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. Therefore, he will be called after sunset this evening. It is noteworthy that in Chhath Puja, Shashthi Devi is especially worshiped along with Lord Bhaskar.
