Where is this ancient temple of Sun God?
This ancient temple of Suryadev is located in Srikakulam district, 1 km east of Arasavalli village of Andhra Pradesh. This temple is said to be about 1800 years old but the statue of Suryadev installed here is from the time of Satyayuga. The inscriptions in the temple show that this temple was built by Devendra Varma, the ruler of Kalinga Empire in the 7th century. Raja Devendra Verma had donated this place for Gurukul. That means, education was given to students at this very place.

Devraj Indra had installed this statue of Sun God
According to the popular legend, once Devraj Indra out of pride tried to forcefully enter the place of Lord Shiva, but Nandi stopped him from doing so. Seeing this, Suryadev also got angry and due to his fierce nature, Devraj Indra stopped being visible. Then Devraj Indra installed the statue of Sun God at this place and worshiped it. Due to which Devraj Indra started seeing everything again.
The statue of Sun God is 5 feet high
The statue of Lord Suryadev installed in this temple is about 5 feet high. There is also a statue of Suryadev and statues of his two wives Chhaya and Sandhya. Idols of Panchadevs are also installed in the temple. For this reason, this temple is special for the people of Saur, Shaiva, Shakta, Vaishnav and Ganapatya sects. People come here from far and wide to have darshan and worship. Here Lord Surya is worshiped in the name of Varu.
