Chhath Puja 2025: Chhath Puja, the great festival of folk faith celebrated on the Shashthi Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month, was completed this morning with offering Arghya to the rising Sun. There was a steady stream of devotees at the ghats across the country since morning. Lakhs of fasting women stood in the water on the banks of rivers, ponds and lakes and offered Arghya to the Sun God and prayed for the happiness and prosperity of the family, long life of children and prosperity in the society. This festival, which lasted for four days, created a wonderful atmosphere of religious joy and devotion in the entire country. During this, the devotees completed their fast by offering Arghya to the Sun amid the echo of traditional songs on the ghats and women standing in the water amidst the rays of the setting sun.

‘Usha Arghya’ offered to the rising sun

The fourth and last day of Chhath Puja is very important. From this morning itself, a wonderful sight of faith was seen on all the river banks, ponds and artificial ghats. Fasting women and men along with their families stood in the water with soup and daala decorated with fruits, thekua, sugarcane, coconut and different types of dishes. As soon as the first rays of the sun appeared, the entire atmosphere became devotional. Devotees sang the songs of Chhathi Maiya in unison and offered ‘Usha Arghya’ with water and milk. As soon as the Sun God rose, a wave of enthusiasm and devotion spread all around. A crowd of lakhs of people had gathered to witness this moment, who came from far and wide to take part in this holy festival.

36 hours waterless fast completed

Chhath festival is a symbol of cleanliness, purity and self-discipline. The rigorous 36-hour Nirjala fast (without consuming food or water), which started from the day of Kharna, was completed today after offering Arghya to the rising sun. After offering Surya Arghya, the devotees will now break the fast as per the rituals by taking Prasad.
