- On the third day of Sandhya Arghya, those observing the fast must abstain from food or water from sunrise to sunrise the next day.
- If someone is not fasting, he should not touch the Prasad or Arghya vessel without washing hands.
- Prasad should not be made in an impure state. Pooja material should also not be touched.
- Any work related to Chhath Puja should not be done wearing slippers.
- One should not get angry on the day of Evening Arghya. One should not use abusive words towards anyone.

What to do during Evening Arghya?
Keeping in mind the time of sunset, one should make all the preparations and reach the bank of a holy river or a home-made pond. The fasting person should wear clean and traditional clothes. During Arghya, both the fasting person and the participants of the fast should maintain purity. The fasting person should offer Arghya with milk and Ganga water, either with a pot in his hand or with the help of someone else. The stream of Arghya should be towards the setting sun. While offering Arghya, ensure that the sun’s rays are visible through the stream of water. Vedic mantras should be chanted while offering Arghya. After offering Arghya, light a ghee lamp in a bowl and float it in water or keep it on the banks of the ghat. The story of Chhath fast should be heard at the ghat. After Aarti, pray to Chhathi Maiya for the longevity, happiness, prosperity and health of your children.
