Chhath Puja date 2025: Chhath is the most important festival of worship of Sun God. It is celebrated with great pomp mainly in Bihar, Jharkhand, Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Terai region of Nepal. This festival is dedicated to Sun God and Chhathi Maiya, in which a fast of 36 hours is observed for the happiness, prosperity and fulfillment of the wishes of the children. This festival is considered a symbol of self-purification, happiness and prosperity of children and prosperity of the family. According to the Panchang, Chhath Puja in 2025 will start with Nahay-Khay on 25 October (Saturday). After this, Chhath festival will conclude with Kharna on 26th October (Sunday), Arghya to the setting sun on 27th October (Monday) and Arghya to the rising sun on 28th October (Tuesday).
What should be included in the Chhath Puja thali?

thekua
Main Prasad of Chhath Puja. It is made from wheat flour, jaggery and ghee. It is dedicated to Sun God.
fruits and flowers
It is considered auspicious to include seasonal fruits like banana, coconut, guava, lemon, sugarcane, apple, sweet potato and orange in the plate.
coconut (including copra)
Symbol of perfection and purity. It is kept on top of the Kalash or in a plate.
lamp and incense sticks
Sun God is worshiped with lamps and incense sticks are used to purify the atmosphere.
vermillion and turmeric
Women apply vermillion to their hair during puja and the use of turmeric is considered a symbol of auspiciousness.
Karwa and Soup (Bamboo Basket)
Soup contains naivedya and prasad. Meanwhile, the Karwa is filled with water and offered to the Sun God.
sugarcane and radish
Sugarcane symbolizes longevity, while radish symbolizes purity and penance.
Betel nut, betel nut, clove and cardamom
They have special importance in the worship of Sun God. These are considered part of the Prasad.

Ingredients for offering Arghya to Sun God

- bamboo basket or tour
- vessel full of milk and water
- Lamp
- flowers (red or yellow)

Chhath Puja 2025 date and significance
- Nahay-Khay (25 October): Women purify their homes by taking a bath and make prasad of bottle gourd and gram dal and consume it.
- Kharna (26 October): The fasting person observes a fast throughout the day and concludes the fast by eating jaggery kheer and roti in the evening.
- First Arghya (27 October): Water, milk and flowers are offered to the setting sun. Women stand in water and worship the Sun God.
- Second Arghya (28 October): The fast is concluded by offering Arghya to the rising sun. After this, Prasad is consumed with the family.
