According to the Panchang, Chhath Puja in 2025 will start with Nahay-Khay on 25 October (Saturday). After this, Chhath festival will conclude with Kharna on 26th October (Sunday), Arghya to the setting sun on 27th October (Monday) and Arghya to the rising sun on 28th October (Tuesday).

What should be included in the Chhath Puja thali?

Main Prasad of Chhath Puja. It is made from wheat flour, jaggery and ghee. It is dedicated to Sun God.

coconut (including copra)

Symbol of perfection and purity. It is kept on top of the Kalash or in a plate.

Women apply vermillion to their hair during puja and the use of turmeric is considered a symbol of auspiciousness.

Soup contains naivedya and prasad. Meanwhile, the Karwa is filled with water and offered to the Sun God.

Sugarcane symbolizes longevity, while radish symbolizes purity and penance.

Ingredients for offering Arghya to Sun God

  • vessel full of milk and water

Chhath Puja 2025 date and significance

  • Nahay-Khay (25 October): Women purify their homes by taking a bath and make prasad of bottle gourd and gram dal and consume it.
  • Kharna (26 October): The fasting person observes a fast throughout the day and concludes the fast by eating jaggery kheer and roti in the evening.
  • First Arghya (27 October): Water, milk and flowers are offered to the setting sun. Women stand in water and worship the Sun God.
  • Second Arghya (28 October): The fast is concluded by offering Arghya to the rising sun. After this, Prasad is consumed with the family.
