During Chhath festival, people living outside also return to their homes and the whole family is together. This is the beauty of this festival. During this period, the view of river and pond ghats is different in the morning and evening. Chhath festival is not just a religious festival, but it is a worship of nature. During this time, seasonal things like water chestnut, radish etc. are offered. During this time, water is offered to the rising sun and then to the setting sun. Today i.e. 25th October 2025, Chhath festival has started with bathing and eating and tomorrow Kharna will be celebrated. After this the waterless fast starts. These will be the ingredients required
To make jaggery kheer, you will need one liter full cream milk, 1 cup rice (basmati or of your choice), one cup jaggery or you can increase or decrease as per taste. Two spoons of pure desi ghee, approximately half a cup of water or as per requirement, half a teaspoon of cardamom powder and at least three to four spoons of nuts and dry fruits like raisins, coconut, almonds, cashews etc. Know the method of making kheer.
How to make kheer
- First of all, clean the rice, wash it twice and then soak it in water for half an hour.
- To make kheer on Kharna, a thick bottomed brass or earthen vessel should be used. Put milk in it to boil on medium flame.
- When the milk comes to a boil, add soaked rice to it, reduce the flame to very low, cover it and cook.
- Keep checking the kheer by removing the lid from time to time so that milk does not come out. The rice should melt well and not stick to the bottom.

- Meanwhile, put jaggery in a vessel and melt it with half a cup of water. When it dissolves completely, cool it and filter it.
- Heat ghee in a pan and fry chopped nuts and dry fruits in it and mix it in the prepared kheer. During this time also add cardamom powder in it.
- After the kheer is ready, let it cool down a bit and then add the jaggery solution and mix well. In this way your delicious kheer will be prepared.
- Do not cook the kheer further after adding jaggery, otherwise sometimes the milk curdles.
