Celebrated with great reverence and devotion in Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and parts of Nepal. However, now it is celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm all over India. This festival is dedicated to the worship of Sun God and Chhathi Maiya and starts from Chaturthi Tithi (Nahay-Khay) of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month and continues for four days. During all four days, devotees perform the rituals of Nahay-Khay, Kharna, Sandhya Arghya and Uday Arghya, which teach them discipline, restraint and devotion. This festival is also a means to purify the body and mind and promote love, cooperation and trust in family and society.
