Why is the great festival of Chhath celebrated?
Chhath festival is celebrated on the Shashti Tithi of Kartik Shukla Paksha. On this day, in Chhath Puja, Chhathi Maiya is worshiped and Arghya is offered to the Sun God. It is said that Chhathi Maiya is the sister of Surya Devi and when a child is born, Chhathi Maiya stays with the child for 6 months. Devotees observe a fast for 4 days to get their wishes fulfilled by Chhathi Maiya. It is believed that worshiping them brings happiness, prosperity and health to the house. This festival which lasts for 2 days is celebrated with great devotion in Bihar, Jharkhand and North India. This time it is starting from 25th October.
