Chennai Metro Update: DPR Work For Lighthouse–High Court, Tambaram–Guindy–Velachery Extensions Begins

Chennai Metro Update: The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has begun the process to prepare detailed project reports (DPRs) for two proposed extensions – one from Lighthouse to High Court and another covering the Tambaram–Guindy–Velachery corridor. Contracts for the DPR preparation have been awarded to Systra MVA Consulting India.

According to CMRL, the Lighthouse–High Court stretch will be around 7 km long, aimed at improving connectivity along the Marina beach area and the Secretariat. The second extension will cover nearly 21 km, linking Tambaram, Medavakkam, Pallikaranai and Velachery with Guindy Metro station. This link will form part of Corridor 1, which runs from Washermenpet to Chennai Airport.
